Faisal Hallaj

Club Director 

As the Club Director for Potomac Elite Volleyball Club, Coach Hallaj has made it a personal mission to grow the game of volleyball and provide a positive, safe, and affordable home for those players committed to pursuing their passion of volleyball. Faisal Hallaj is currently in his fifth season as the Assistant Volleyball coach at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV (NCAA Division II, Mountain East Conference).   Coach Hallaj is dedicated to the building of strong foundations in volleyball, and brings his experience of defensive system building to the forefront as Shepherd Volleyball's defensive coordinator.  Coach Hallaj comes to the Rams Volleyball program after serving as Head Volleyball Coach for Woodgrove High School in Purcellville, Virginia for three years.  As Woodgrove's first volleyball coach, he was responsible for building a program, and the team of coaches and staff that competed in one of the toughest high school volleyball districts in Virginia. Coach Hallaj is a certified USA Volleyball CAP Level 2 coach, as well as a Gold Medal Squared Level 2 coach.  Ue is also USAV IMPACT certified and an active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, Chesapeake Region Volleyball Association, and the Amateur Athletic Union. Faisal Hallaj utilizes his extensive background in Tae Kwon Do training to help build strong, balanced, and intuitive athletes.  With over 20 years of training, Coach Hallaj placed in the United States top 10 in 1990 and 1991.

Melissa Hallaj

Club Administrator • CHRVA Rep • Community Relations

Melissa has been involved in travel volleyball on all levels (parent, team manager, club administrator) for over 10 years. She helped to start Western Loudoun Volleyball Club, and was involved in all aspects of club administration for over four years. Starting last year, she transferred her skills to Potomac Elite Volleyball Club and has taken on all areas of the club’s administrative needs. She is responsible for supporting the Club Director and Coaches, communication on behalf of the Club, organizing team schedules, tournament registrations, team reservations, and all other administrative tasks as needed. Her love for the sport, and her desire to help grow the game of volleyball makes her a great asset to Potomac Elite VBC. She is pretty much the brains of the operation and makes sure things run smoothly for the benefit of all of our coaches, parents and players. 

Ben Nichols

Webmaster • Technical Coach • Strategy

This will be Ben's fourth year with Potomac Elite. Ben graduated from George Mason University in 2010 where he competed on the Men’s Division 1 volleyball team as an Outside Hitter and Middle for three years. Prior to that, he spent two years playing on the Men’s volleyball team at Long Beach State University in Southern California. Ben has a strong coaching knowledge that he has gained over the years while playing for some of the best coaches in the NCAA. He brings a strong understanding of the game as well as experience as a high level player and coach. Ben is looking forward to this season with PEVBC. Some of his past playing achievements include: Chicago Sun-Times First Team All-State, Chicago Tribune Second Team All-State, All-Conference for 3 years, All Area in 2004 and 2005, Team MVP in 2005, AAU All-American in 2004, Led team to state final and was named 2004 Illinois All-Tournament Team, George Mason Captain, He has also earned medals in USAV Beach Volleyball back in the day.
