Farewell Letter from Coach Smith
Hello Parents, Players, and Coaches,
I wanted to formally inform everyone that I am no longer the coach at Shepherd University. While this is not new news I do want to thank everyone for their support throughout this uncertain time. Sport is full of change and obstacles, something we always try to teach our athletes but regardless of teaching it always seems to surprise us.
I have since accepted a new position at Youngstown State University as their assistant coach/recruiting coordinator; start date is June 16. While I am sad to leave the area I am also very excited to start a new journey in Ohio. I know this is a quick turn-around but we are prepared.
As a Board we always knew this was a possibility and discussed our plan of action in April. We came to a joint decision to keep PEVBC alive and growing in the Eastern Panhandle. I am so happy to have found such dedicated partners in the Hallaj family along with coaches Alyssa Eshelmann and Ben Nichols who are passionate about volleyball and growing the sport. We have several new and young coaches who are just as eager to learn and grow that we knew our only choice was to keep moving forward.
With that being said, we have started our own camps and skill position clinics this summer. We hope this will be a spring board for a volley tot program as well as position specific growth in the off season for our upper level players. We also want to start introducing Boys into the mix. So please-- bring your brothers and their friends to camp!! We will never send away any person interested in learning volleyball. Hopefully next summer we can venture into grass and sand USAV region tournaments as well.
As you can tell, Potomac Elite is still focused on growing sport and teaching life lessons. I am most proud of the girls I have helped growth and of this club. While I am sad to leave I have complete confidence in those taking over. It has been a privilege and honor to know each of you. Thank you again for your support.
Yours In Sport,
Sarah L. Smith
